When I launch a new website, I start receiving traffic almost immediately. In August and September of 2006 I started several new websites to test a new traffic generating method. Here's one:

I launched this particular site late in September 2006 and began to see traffic almost immediately. The traffic began to build steadily and continues to grow to this day.

This Is Great, But...
Can It Make Us Money?

Absolutely! For these new sites, I wanted a hands-off way to get some passive income because they were basically test sites. I just did not have time to do much with them on a daily basis. So, I added Google Adsense® to the site just to see how much income I could generate.

Here's how I did it...

In recent months many online business owners have begun to learn about the benefit of a relatively new traffic generating method called social bookmarking.

Social bookmarking is part of what's know as Web 2.0. Web 2.0 sites focus on building online communities of like-minded users who collaborate and share information online. Sites like youtube.com and myspace.com are two very well know Web 2.0 type communities.

Our main goal is traffic. With this in mind, social bookmarking sites offer several traffic benefits over any other Web 2.0 type community:

1. First, you get direct traffic from visitors clicking on your bookmarks and going directly to your web page. This will not be a large amount of traffic, but it is highly targeted.
   
   
2. Second, you have faster search engine indexing.
   
   When you add your bookmark to a bookmarking site, it is usually displayed on the main index page. These front pages usually have a very high Google PR, ranging from PR5 to PR8.
   
   Search engine spiders visit high PR sites quite frequently, especially Googlebot. When they do, they will find your bookmarks that will send them directly to your websites.
   
   
3. You receive increased authority and higher SE ranking.
   
   Because Google considers many bookmarking sites to be trusted, authority sites, any direct link to your website will increase the power and importance of your site as well. This means higher ranking for your keywords in Google!

Benefit #3 is probably the most powerful of them all!

Understand that authority and ranking are different from indexing. Getting your site indexed simply involves getting search engine spiders to visit the site so they can log the pages into the search engine's database.

Now once it's indexed, will your site be #1 or #1,000,001? That is your "ranking".

If Google has indexed two sites for the keyword "dog houses", which will be #1 and which will be #2? Well, of course, the site with the most trust and authority will be #1.

Social bookmarking allows Google and other search engines to find your web page from a link on a very high PR, trusted site. This is an important key for for building trust, authority and getting a good search engine ranking.
